Giants

What makes a Champion?

PHYSICALLY/ATHLETICALLY GIFTED

Speed, strength, power, explosiveness and/or endurance. Natural ability to learn techniques and movements quickly.

Im sure almost everyone is familiar, at least a little bit, with the story of David and Goliath in the bible. However, until this past Sunday after church I had only known one portion or perspective of the story. I never looked or understood that before David went against Goliath, God had turned away each of his older brothers, who from society’s eyes probably seemed more fit for the job of being King over Isreal.

However, all 7 of his older brothers were rejected by God. Even though they were all older and stronger, God knew what was on the inside of their hearts. He knew they lacked courage, diligence and obedience.

You see when the time came for Israel to face Goliath and defeat the giant, EVERYONE sat on the sidelines afraid of going against him. They had no faith and definitely no courage to be the one to stand up and do something different.

But when little ole David heard what Goliath was saying about the people of Isreal, HE STOOD UP, having courage, and didn’t look at the size of the giant in front of him but rested in His faith in God.

You see all God needed was someone with courage, faith and the willingness to be obedient and Isreal was delivered from the hands of their enemies.

This story rang so true in my life, and maybe it will in someone elses. Today the giants we face aren’t usually 9 ft tall and big and nasty creature, though they very well may feel like it. The giant in your life might be unemployment, abandonment, sexual abuse, or depression. Today’s Goliath provides you with Whiskey you can’t resist, drugs you can’t say no to, pornography you can’t refuse, a career you can’t escape, a past you can’t shake, and a future you can’t face.

We become settled on the sidelines (Thanks Pastor Scott!) and don’t put up any fight at all and allow the struggles in our life to define us and control us, hoping and praying someone else will fight our enemies for us. I know for me I have said over and over, welp this is the way it is and this is just who I am.

BUT MAYBE JUST MAYBE, just like in David’s time all God needs to make a change in my life and yours is a little bit of courage, A LOT OF FAITH and the obedience to do what HE has called you to do. To put an end to the generational giants and make a new life and path for you.

1 act of courage to change the direction of your life, and watch what God can do with those who are still stuck behind you.

So today I pray that you may find the faith and courage you need to get off  of the sidelines and jump into the battlefield!
